We have been impressed with the recent range of smartphones that have been unveiled by Sony. We have looked at the Xperia S model in great detail and find it one of the leading devices available while the more modest Xperia U offers superb specification for what is essentially an entry level device. Now it is the turn of the Sony Xperia P, a model that the manufacturers hope will compete with the dozens of mid range handsets that are currently available like the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Razr. We take a look at what to expect from this exciting new device.
The new Sony Xperia P is an a phone that runs on the popular Android operating system and the model features the Gingerbread version of the software. It is a slight disappointment that Sony did not release the phone with the newer ICS version of the software but the manufacturers do assure us that an update will be available later on in the year. In the processing department the model offers a high quality chip which may not rival the awesome power boasted by the Xperia S but is still very impressive. A 1Ghz dual core chip should ensure that users get very good operation speeds from the device while a good graphics processing unit is on hand to help the model cope with some of the more demanding games titles that are available. 16GB of internal storage capacity is available on the model which should prove more than sufficient for a fairly extensive collection of photographs and audio tracks but there is no external micro SD card slot so users do have to make the most of the internal capacity that is available.
Sony are renowned for incorporating superb multi media features on their handsets and the new Sony Xperia P is certainly no exception. The model offers some excellent camera features that enable users to record video footage and photographs with the device. Still photography results are superb and the phone records images at a fantastic resolution of 8 million pixels. The exact camera sensor that will be used has not been confirmed but Sony have established a great reputation for producing high quality sensors so we are sure that the phone will not disappoint in this department. Video recording is equally as impressive with Full HD resolution of 1080P and a handy video light to allow footage to be recorded in darker conditions. The device incorporates a powerful set of loudspeakers so that users can enjoy audio from their footage or their favourite music tracks while there is also the option of using headphones thanks to a 3.5mm stereo socket.
The Sony Xperia P is one of the most impressive mid range devices that we have ever encountered. The phone is packed with some superb features such as a high quality camera and a powerful processor. Expect to see this model develop into one of the most popular smartphones of 2012.
The Sony Xperia P is coming soon and the Motorola Razr is available now.
