The 2012 Toyota Camry has recently seen a dramatic increase in popularity among a broader and younger market of vehicle buyers, breaking into younger generations. This recent market shift has led to a significant increase in sales for the Camry overall. Toyota has not foreseen this behavior but is celebrating the happy turn of events.
In 2012 the top-selling Toyota Camry underwent a makeover and remodeling, giving it a more stylish, and modern look. Bob Carter, Senior VP of Automotive Operations in the U.S., has stated that the Camry has seen a 40% increase in sales in 2012 alone. This means that the Camry sold 60,000 more vehicles than its two closest competitors, the Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima.
This newest version of the Camry lowered the average age of its buyers by ten full years! The average buyer of a 2012 Camry is 52 years old. We didnt anticipate that much movement in the demographics, Carter explained. The 2012 Camry SE, which represents a sportier version of the sedan, features a sportier suspension, 5-spoke aluminum wheels and low-profile tires, and has successfully found what the younger market likes. The SE trim now makes up 40% of Camry sales.
Carter also explained that Toyota expects to see 2 million vehicles sold in the U.S. this year, predicting total industry sales in the U.S. to reach 14.3 million. Earlier this year Toyota held a conservative estimate of only 13.6 million in sales, but has since increased the forecast due to the recent change in market demographic.
The 2012 Camry features a 2.5-liter 4-Cylinder DOHC engine driving 78 horsepower and generating 170 lb-ft. of torque. It also offers an EPA-estimated 25 city/35 highway mpg fuel economy rating. Vehicle experts frequently commend the Camry for its top performance and great safety features. It was awarded as a Top Safety Pick in 2012 by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety; it received Kelley Blue Books 2012 Best Resale Value Award and became the #1 selling car in America. The 2012 Camry is setting the bar for competing sedans in its class.
