When thinking of running long distances, most people also consider the consistent repetitive impact and loads on the body as a whole, but especially the knees. Physical therapists across the world treat runners who are in pain and work to help develop programs for preventing pain and enhancing performance. As Ive watched a lot of the Olympic coverage the past few weeks in London, it seems clear that most all of these athletes have dealt with pain and limitations at some point and even fighting through various issues as they go for gold!
Lee Kole stated, There is nothing better in life than to see and hear the amazing changes people can make in their lives. I remember meeting with C.C.s therapist when he first started and his concern that he would not be able to return to what he loved, running. Being a part of this process and working with such great people is a true privilege. All of us really enjoy what we do and the relationships we build with our patients here at BreakThrough Physical Therapy, but words really cannot describe what it is like to have someone openly and honestly share these types of results. Mr. Kole also explained that proper treatment and optimal results can really only be achieved with a detailed assessment by a physical therapist. Often, people will look to the web, magazines and books for assistance, but nothing really compares to one on one individualized assessment, treatment over a series of visits, said Kole. Successful treatment often requires a systematic approach involving the assessment and treatment of not only the affected area, but also adjacent regions as the body is a system of joints and muscles that work in harmony for efficient movement patterns.
