Due to the rising craze of Apple's hot-selling iPads, tablet computer, the personal computer market shrank considerably,for the first time, according to the recently released figures, says a report published in The News. International Data Corporation revealed that PC shipments decreased 3.2% since the recession ended. Worldwide PC shipments 84.3 million units during the first quarter of the year, in a 1.1% drop, as a result of weak demand for consumer PCs in the market. The consumers were attracted towards media tablets and other consumer electronic equipments.An analyst observed that after Apple's second generation iPad was released in February, many consumers switched over or stopped buying PCs. Another reason for the disruption, according to IDC, was the disaster in Japan, which contributed to the break in PC market. IDC Vice President said, " Instead of blaming the decline completely on the rise of media tablets, other factors also played their part including extended PC lifetimes and the lack of compelling new PC experiences. With better computing possible in the form of mini-laptops and tablet computers, PC manufacturers need to give the consumers some reasons to pay for the added horse-power, according to IDC analyst Jay Chou. Sale of PCs is still expected to remain low during the current quarter but may pick up in the second half of the year
