National Heimlich Maneuver Day June 1

United States (FreePressBox.com) Jul 29th, 2012 --

In 1975, Henry Heimlich introduced this lifesaving maneuver to the Red Cross, who quickly adopted it. Since then, the method has saved the lives of countless people who may have found themselves biting off more than they could chew.

June 1st is a day that celebrates National Heimlich Maneuver day, and for many people, it is something that they may owe their lives to. Whether too much has been swallowed or perhaps theres even an extraordinary set of circumstances that has blocked the airway, the Heimlich maneuver is a technique that everyone should know how to perform.

While the Heimlich maneuver has proven a lifesaver in many restaurants and dinner tables throughout the world, take the time to consider another technique that has saved countless lives. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which is commonly known as CPR, has been used in the medical field to save lives since the 1950s. While the technique might appear simple, it must always be practiced appropriately for it to work.

Of course, you must first master the technique before you can properly perform the Heimlich maneuver or CPR. There are several online sites that offer visual instructions, such as YouTube, or you can get digital training material at the American Red Cross Association. And always remember that you need to be able to perform these techniques properly to avoid any secondary injuries.

Planning your upcoming event often leaves us considering such factors like party supplies, decorations, and what food to serve. While West Texas caterers can provide the best food services and an endless variety of meal combinations, there is also the safety of your guests to take into consideration.

Because it isnt always possible to have a readily certified medical professional at every event, it is always a good idea to have yourself or an associate that is certified so that someone at any of your events is trained and ready to take action if needed.

So, when youre planning your next event, make sure you take the time to ensure the safety of your guests. After all, you never know how utterly tempting the food is going to be.
