Very recently, Mitsubishi sent two fully electric powered vehicles up the mountain course at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Both vehicles, the nearly stock i-MiEV and the highly modified i-MiEV Evolution, completed the grueling and highly dangerous course without any issues. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a vehicle that any driver can buy at dealerships around the country like D. Dyer Mitsubishi. While the stock i-MiEVs only goal was to finish the 12.42 mile course and prove that electric vehicles are capable of such demanding driving, the i-MiEV Evolution was in it to prove just how fast they can go. Both EVs achieved their goal and have proved that Mitsubishi is one of the worlds leading developer of electric powered vehicles.
The purpose built i-MiEV Evolution racing car performed very well at the event; finishing second in the electric vehicle class and eighth overall. The custom EV used three electric motors that put out 322 horsepower and a 35kWh battery to propel it up the mountain in just 10:30.850. Almost equally impressive, considering that it uses only one stock electric motor to power the rear wheels and the stock 16kWh battery, Beccy Gordon was able to navigate her i-MiEV up the course in 15:10.557 and with over 50% battery power remaining.
The only difference between the i-MiEV that Beccy Gordon drove up the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and one that customers can purchase at dealerships like D.
