Lincoln Interior Design Chief Soo Kang Redesigning 2013 Mkz

Soo Kang, Lincoln’s Interior Design Chief, is currently working on a project to redesign the 2013 MKZ and turn the old-fashion Lincoln brand reputation around Oct 15th, 2012.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Oct 15th, 2012 --

With new vehicles and new designs, Lincoln has been working on targeting a new audience of customers. Their stylish, high-tech rides are beginning to grab the attention of a younger generation, but Lincoln is not stopping there. Chief interior designer Soo Kang has been challenged to redesign the 2013 MKZ, hoping to bring more attention to the former top-selling American luxury brand.

Soo Kang graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1987 with a degree in design. While participating in a student design competition, she grabbed the attention of Ford with a first-place design of a four-door luxury sedan. Since graduation, she has been working and designing for Ford Motor Company.

Kang is now the chief interior designer, putting her award-winning designs to the test as she has been challenged to work on the curves and technological connectivity of the 2013 MKZ. This potential re-designed MKZ is what Lincoln is hoping will turn their brand around, being recognized as Americas top-selling luxury brand once again.

Kang finds design influences through contemporary culture, challenging herself to come up with two or three things to differentiate the vehicle from its predecessors for each project. For the MKZ, Kang is looking to keep the interior spacious, serene and quiet, eliminating any excess bells and whistles as well as creating a compact dashboard with a concave glove box.

Currently, Kangs favorite feature in the MKZ is the push-button gear shifter. Its not just because it is cool, thats not enough to motivate buyers, she explains. When I was doing the MKZ, I freed up the console area so you can have really good storage with a more flowing instrument panel. That was my sales pitch. Luckily, the engineering team bought it and it is one of the most popular features today.

Kang plans on giving the MKZ a great, new look while keeping the luxury Lincoln reputation strong. Hines Park Lincoln is excited to see what she has up her sleeve.
