World Environment Day, June 5th 2012
Green Economy: Does it include you? is the theme for this years World Environment Day, and here at Kuramathi Island Resort we couldnt agree more with the statement, which aligns well with our commitment to sustainable tourism. Kuramathi celebrates the World Environment Day, with an eventful program organised to mark the importance of our environment. The program starts with an educative expedition of the island, firstly with a visit to the 300 year old Banyan Tree; a historical landmark and a centrepiece of the trees of Kuramathi. Guided by the resident horticulturist, the tour then progresses to the winding pathways of the Botanic Walk, moving onto an untouched patch of Maldivian rainforest which features the Nature Trail. The event ends with a coconut plucking demonstration, a must see for those new to the exotic art of gathering coconuts. After witnessing the skillful art of plucking ripe coconuts, queue in to taste the delicious fruits!
Later in the evening, an environment video is screened at the Sand Bar. An Environment Day cocktail is also featured in the bar, a lip-smacking concoction one should try!
