Fuel Saving Afm Technology Available In Select 2013 Chevrolet Silverado Engines

Fuel Saving AFM Technology Available in Select 2013 Chevrolet Silverado Engines Sep 13th, 2012.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Sep 13th, 2012 --

Lake Chevrolet has recently announced that they will soon feature Active Fuel Management technology in select V8 engines of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. This fuel saving technology will give Silverado trucks greater fuel efficiency while still providing strong power and torque.

Many customers are looking at fuel economy ratings as one of their top concerns when buying a new vehicle. In order to compete, many companies are replacing engines in order to give larger vehicles a better fuel economy rating. For example, many 6-cylinder vehicles are now featuring 4-cylinder turbocharged engines while V8 engines now drive turbocharged V6 engines.

In order to keep up with this trend, GM decided to add their already-existing Active Fuel Management technology to their V8 Silverado. As a result, the Silverado keeps its 8-cylinder engine, power and torque, but now has greater fuel efficiency.

The Active Fuel Management technology featured in the 2013 Silverado is pretty simple. The technology allows the engine to turn off half of the cylinders when carrying a light-load in order to save fuel economy. When traveling lightly, the engine is not operating at full power and does not need air and fuel through all of its cylinders to maintain speed. AFM allows the engine to work less, giving the vehicle better fuel efficiency.

For millions of people who depend on their trucks and expect them to last, we believe our V-8 engines with Active Fuel Management are an excellent solution, explains Jordan Lee, global chief engineer for small block engines and Chevy. In fact, our 5.3-liter V-8 delivers EPA fuel economy estimates comparable to some competitors V6 engines.

The 2013 Silverado has proven to be a great pickup truck. The 5.3-liter Vortec engine is great for towing, generating 315 horsepower and 335 lb-ft. of torque power. It also proves to keep passengers safe, featuring six airbags, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, a Tire Pressure Monitor and OnStar with Built-In Automatic Crash Response.
