Fords Cmax Energi Hybrid Allows Drivers To Stay On The Road Longer

Expected to deliver a 550-total mile range, the new Ford C-MAX Energi is redefining the hybrid design. Aug 1st, 2012.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Aug 1st, 2012 --

The new Ford C-MAX Energi Hybrid has been designed to take the average driving experience to a new level. With a fuel economy expected to be the equivalent of 95 miles per gallon (MPGe) combined highway/city, the C-MAX Energi is estimated to reach more than 20 miles of electric-only range stemming from an advanced lithium-ion battery charge. With an overall 550-mile range, Fords first plug-in hybrid is already changing the name of the game in hybrid manufacturing.

Labeled by Ford as the first hybrid vehicle ever that can be driven from Sacramento to San Diego on a single tank of gas and make the average American commute without gasoline, the C-MAX Energi will be combining an external charge port and lithium-ion battery with the operation of the C-MAX Hybrid. Described as a hybrid-plus, the fuel efficient and eco-friendly C-MAX is projected to be the most affordable hybrid utility vehicle in America.

We are proud C-MAX Energi is the first plug-in hybrid that can deliver a 550-mile overall range and more than 20 miles of electric range as it gives customers great flexibility to commute to work, then take off for a road trip while passing many gas stations along the way, said John Davis, chief nameplate engineer for Fords compact cars and utility vehicles. C-MAX Energi is a great symbol for the leading fuel economy were delivering across our lineup to give customers the power of choice to save money at the pump.

Powered by your choice of a 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt charge station, the C-MAX Energi has an estimated total system horsepower of 188. Also incorporated is the latest technology of SmartGauge with EcoGuide that is designed to present drivers with immediate fuel economy information on two LCD screens.

Those who purchase the C-MAX Energi will also have the ability to obtain the MyFord smartphone application. This mobile application gives user the opportunity to monitor charging, find charging stations, plan trips and receive alerts.

Fords electrified vehicles offer a great combination of efficiency, performance, technology and affordability that we believe will help spur adoption of these advanced vehicles, says Kevin Layden, director, Ford Electrification Programs and Engineering. C-MAX Energi not only offers leading efficiency, it has 50 more horsepower than the Prius plug-in hybrid along with class-exclusive technologies such as our hands-free liftgate and active park assist for easier parallel parking.
