The world of EVs (electric vehicles) is quickly expanding as more and more drivers realize the benefits afforded by driving a car that doesnt need gasoline. One of the more recent additions to this growing market, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric, is generating quite a bit of buzz here at Marketplace Ford for its innovative take on how EVs should operate. While it has all the options, interior appointments, and technology of a top-of-the-line Ford Focus, it is actually an electric car and does a few things in a way that only a Ford car can. The Focus EV is aimed at drivers who will be using it for short, to midrange errand running trips. As long as it can be parked and charging, if only for even a half hour or so, it should provide plenty of range for the average shopping day.
What makes the Electric Focus stand out from other electric cars is that it doesnt look like a giant jelly bean that has fallen out of an alien space ship. The Focus Electric is difficult to distinguish from its gasoline powered counterpart, and is in fact, a bit muscular looking. Another distinguishing factor that makes it different from all the other electric cars out there is its charging system. Ford has created a vehicle that can achieve a full electric charge in as little as three and a half hours! It does have a slightly shorter (80 miles) range than its competition but this has been purposefully engineered into the car. By hauling around fewer, heavy batteries, it carries less weight and can make better use of its power and achieves a driving feel closer to that of its gasoline counterpart. The fast charging batteries allow drivers to get back to full power while they are in the grocery store or at a movie though and this is what makes the Focus Electric special. Even with all this technology, the driver only needs to exercise a bit more foresight in their trip planning.
While the 2012 Ford Focus Electric may seem like it has a high sticker price at first glance, generous tax rebates and fuel saving make it more affordable than it seems. Most drivers will see nearly 10,000 in State and Tax refunds that will lower the starting cost of this EV to only slightly more than the top of the line Focus with a gasoline engine. High end features that are only available as packages and options on even the top of the line Focus are standard on the Focus EV as well. One of the most innovative features is the smartphone integration that allows owners to track their driving telematics, schedule a time to charge based on electricity rates, connect their car with social sites, and so much more. And since this is a Ford vehicle, the technology integration is top of the line and easy to access and use.
Here at Marketplace Ford, we are happy to see Ford continuing to create such amazing and futuristic vehicles. We believe that the 2012 Ford Focus Electric is a great first step in a long line of electric and hybrid vehicles for the future.
