FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 15, 2012 (Orlando, FLORIDA): As a part of the SAP SAPPHIRE and Americas SAP User Group (ASUG) Annual conference, Newport Consulting Group, an independent advisory firm serving Fortune 1000, INC. 5000, public sector, and not-for-profit organizations announced the formation of their Cloud Operations Readiness service offering.
“Ready for the Cloud? You may have less time than you think you do,” so says Managing Principal, William Newman, during the conference. “Mobile and cloud technologies are no longer the ‘long pole in the tent’ and organizations are finding themselves ill-prepared to launch new processes and internal capabilities even when the technology is ready for deployment.”
As part of the new service offering, Newport Consulting Group will focus not only the technical preparation for moving to cloud and mobile computing, but the financial, business and human resource impacts to the organization required to support new cloud and mobile technologies. “These technologies can take on many forms,” Newman explains. “A combination of mobile, cloud, and on-premises solutions based on the needs of the organization.”
Organizations have a number of options available to them, so says Liz Garnand, Principal for the firm in the area of Technology and Market Growth in a recent article. “Manufacturers need no longer be locked into one type of system, especially when it comes to on-premises software. The best vendors offer a mix of options, including hybrid systems that provide services that can connect hosted applications with on-premises enterprise resource planning (ERP) [software], all configured based on the manufacturer’s needs.”
Another factor is that policies and procedures are often lacking when an organization considers cloud or mobile technologies. With some mobile applications taking weeks and days to develop instead of months and years, this can often leave the human resource and operations groups rushing to catch up with technology programs. “The cloud is virtually replacing the dinosaur we know as the file cabinet for human resources management (HRM) systems and processes, claims Joe Stockemer, Principal for the firm in the area of Operations Management. “It can store vast volumes of data, be available instantly, be secure, made available to various clearance levels of personnel, while being friendly to the environment – as long as the organization is ready to do so.”
