San Francisco, CA- On September 18, the Coon Rapids police and fire departments responded to a fire at Wedgewoord Drive and 124th Street North West. [The fire began] in the garage of the end unit in a four-townhouse complex and spread to the roof, according to Coon Rapids Fire Chief, John Piper.
According to Piper, the sheetrock wall is what prevented the fire from spreading to the other townhomes as firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze. Three people who were inside when the fire broke out were able to evacuate the building and make it to safety. The three people included a man, his teenage stepson and a young girl, age three.
According to the man involved, he had just returned home from dropping his wife off at work and had parked his vehicle in the garage. Local Fire Marshal, Todd Williams stated that the man received some minor burns when he opened the garage door to see what was happening. but not other injuries were reported. It is not known yet what was the cause of the fire
but Williams stated that We are looking at the vehicle, possibly cigarette smoking or electrical, for possible sources for the start of the fire. There was also some fire damage near a service door to the townhouse according to Williams.
It was also noted that there was smoke and water damage to the home, making it uninhabitable for the family. A small amount of fire damage to the roof and smoke damage to the garage itself was reported. The vehicle in the garage escaped damage.
