Endeavour Space Shuttle Successfully Towed By 2012 Toyota Tundra

The Endeavour Space Shuttle was successfully towed by the same 2012 Toyota Tundra available at Steven Toyota in Harrisonburg, VA. Oct 18th, 2012.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Oct 18th, 2012 --

For months Toyota has been publicizing the historic event of one of its 2012 Toyota Tundras towing the Endeavour Space Shuttle, and the event went off without a hitch. Steven Toyota is proud to carry the same 2012 Toyota Tundra model that was used to tow the iconic spacecraft. For more information on the tow, visit the Tundra Endeavour Challenges website.

The voyage of epic proportions challenged a 2012 Toyota Tundra, with no special modifications, with the task of towing the Endeavour over the Manchester Boulevard Bridge to its final resting place at the California Science Center, and the 2012 Tundra prevailed.

The model used in the tow was the 2012 Tundra CrewMax four-wheel-drive powered by a 5.7-liter iForce V8. The high-performing engine that generates 381 horsepower is the same one that a customer could drive off the showroom floor today.

The decision to allow the Tundra to tow the Endeavour came from a long-standing partnership between Toyota and the California Science Center. Weve partnered with the California Science Center since the early '90s as part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring youth in the fields of engineering, innovation and future technology, and we are honored to lend our support for this historic event, said Michael Rouse, vice president of community affairs and philanthropy for Toyota.

The Endeavour weighs and incredible 150,000 pounds so controlling the rig is no small undertaking, but Toyota and the California Science Center found the right man for job. Matt McBride, a professional driver for Toyota, teamed up with former astronaut Garret Reisman.

Im honored to be part of the space shuttle Endeavours final mission to the California Science Center, said Garrett Reisman, an engineer and former NASA astronaut. I appreciate Toyotas support in helping bring this space icon home to the Southern California community.

To get behind the wheel of the obviously high-performing 2012 Toyota Tundra, visit Steven Toyota in Harrisonburg, VA. The Virginia dealer is also located online, at http://www.steventoyota.com/index.htm.
