Strong response from regional buyers on second day of Automechanika Middle East
Dubais total automotive trade rose by 13% in the first quarter of 2012 over that of the same period last year, underlining the healthy growth trend that is continuing in the Middle East regions automotive aftermarket. Revealing the key figures at Automechanika Middle East yesterday (Wednesday, 23rd May) was Ms. Nassim Saeed Al Muhairi from the Department of Statistics at Dubai Customs.
Presenting at the Automechanika Academy on the second day of Automechanika Middle East at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Ms. Muhairi revealed that the total value of Dubais automotive trade in Q1, 2012 was worth AED 9.6 billion (US 2.6 billion).
Speaking after her presentation, Ms. Muhairi said: The figures indicate that Dubai continues to figure prominently as the hub driving the growing trade in auto parts and equipment in the wider region. As demand continues to grow, we see increasing opportunities for international companies to benefit from Dubais key positional and logistical advantages.
Reflecting the remarkable growth of the regions aftermarket, both in size and scope, the ongoing 10th edition of Automechanika Middle East is 24% larger than last year and boasts a 26% increase in UAE exhibitors.
Our exhibiting partners have played a significant role in Automechanika Middle East becoming the premier trade show for the regional industry, said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt. As we keep developing in step with our regional partners, we will continue to pay close attention to their feedback on various aspects of the show, fine-tuning it to cater more closely to the industrys needs, he added.

Expressing satisfaction at the response, Jens Liebermann, Sales Support Manager of BASF Coatings Refinish division, Middle East, said: We have been pleased with the response from the regional buyers so far, it is looking like our outing with Glasurit to Automechanika Middle East this year will be a successful one. Heading into the final day of its three-day run, there was a noticeable buzz around the show floor, with exhibitors busy handling requests and demonstrating products to large numbers of trade buyers and visitors who kept turning up in a constant stream throughout the day. Also well attended was the Automechanika Academy which began yesterday (Wednesday, 23rd). Today (Thursday, 24th) the Academy will feature presentations on Fleet Tyre Efficiency and Anti-Counterfeiting Measures.
