United States (FreePressBox.com) Oct 11th, 2012 --
October has been officially recognized as Eye Injury Prevention Month. For this reason, an emphasis is placed on safeguarding eyes in various environments, namely the home , workplace. Corrective lenses and regular eye examinations are very effective in maintaining good vision and ensuring that your are healthy and safe year after year. Another essential step that everyone must take is practicing eye care safety each every day to safeguard eyes from injuries and accidents. Eyes are a very sensitive organ, even a minor injury can be painful and become a lifelong issue. Thus it is essential to take the necessary precautions. When we think of eye protection, we think of people wearing helmets and face masks, but we forget that even at home we might find ourselves dealing with eye accidents. According to the report of fifth-annual Eye Injury Snapshot conducted by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Ocular Trauma, nearly 44.7 % of all eye injuries occur at home. The best way to protect your eyes from injuries is to always wear safety glasses. What makes safety glasses different from regular eye glasses is that, they have a stronger and thicker frame with specialized impact resistance lenses. Eyes also need to be protected from prolonged sun exposure; excessive exposure to harmful UV rays can burn the surface of the eye, similar to sun burn or tanning. UV exposure to eyes can cause cataract, skin cancer around the eyelids and snow blindness. It is therefore recommended to wear sunglasses whenever you step out of home no matter how sunny or cloudy it is. While choosing a pair of sunglasses, be sure that they are able to block 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Always choose ANSI approved glasses. It is also recommended to wear sports sunglasses when participating in certain sports. The slightest of vision problems can blight the career of an athlete therefore a pair of quality sport sunglass not only provides full protection to the wearer from wind, dust, UV rays, flying insects, but at the same time provides an opportunity to perform exceptionally well. Eventually, the key to averting eye injuries is to take a more proactive approach. Eyes are the most beautiful creation of god. Make the extra effort to protect them. Global eyeglasses is celebrating eye injury prevention month by offering flat 15% off on its entire range of prescription and sports sunglasses. So, celebrate Eye Injury Prevention Month from October and beyond.
