CEF (Pty) Ltd. (CEF) is engaged in providing energy solutions to meet the future energy needs of South Africa, the Southern African Development Community and the sub-Saharan African region. The company principally focuses on oil, gas, electrical power, promoting offshore and onshore exploration, tank terminal management, solar energy, low-smoke fuels, biomass, wind and renewable energy sources. The company also manages the operation and development of the oil and gas assets and operations of the South African government. The CEF group consists of seven operating subsidiaries namely PetroSA, iGas, Petroleum Agency SA, Oil Pollution Control SA (OPCSA), South African National Energy Research Institute (Saneri), National Energy Efficiency Agency (NEEA) and Strategic Fuel Fund Association (SFF). CEF created a new division named, Energy Development Corporation (EDC) that focuses on commercial projects and developmental energy projects. In addition, CEF also takes care of administering the system that regulates the price of petrol in South Africa. The company is headquartered at Johannesburg, South Africa.
