The Box Appeal charity campaign to help improve the lives of children and families in their local community is in full swing, with the Egyptian Orphanage Association among the early beneficiaries and more organizations to follow from this generous initiative.
Thirty boys and girls were made a whole lot happier going back to school after collecting 30 boxes from the hotel that had been filled with pens, rulers, paper and pencils to launch their new academic year in the best possible way.
The Egyptian Orphanage Institution is a non-profit organization devoted to the care and welfare of boys and girls between the ages of four and 10 years. It provides education, teaches skills and provides shelter in a home environment for underprivileged children who have no parents or who have been abandoned by extended family members.
More organizations are also set to benefit from the hotels warm-spirited action.
Boxes are still available at the reception of the Radisson Blu Hotel Cairo, Heliopolis to help the El Sondos Foundation for handicapped, which hosts up to 120 under-privileged children and adults. Locals are asked to take boxes and fill them with everyday essential items such as cleaning materials, soap, shampoo, tooth brushes and tooth paste, hair brushes, bath sponges and disinfectants. Hotel staff will then distribute the full boxes to the Foundation.
Also set to benefit are six families in the Ezbet Karaillah
area south of Cairo, with the hotel asking the community to contribute food, medicines and financial support.
The Box Appeal was initially founded by Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai, Media City, the first campaign was such a success in the following years Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels in Abu Dhabi Yas Island also joined and in 2011 the appeal spread across the Middle East, with Radisson Blu and Park Inn hotels in Oman, Egypt and Bahrain joining the cause. Since its launch in 2008, over 30,000 boxes have been donated, the equivalent of 3 million AED.
Radisson Blu and Park Inn Hotels are managed by Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. Carlson Rezidor was one of the first international hotel groups to implement a companywide initiative focusing on health and safety for guests and employees, on respect for social and ethical issues within the company, and on a reduced negative impact on the environment. The Box Appeal coincides with Carlson Rezidors 9th annual Responsible Business Action Month taking place throughout September, a whole month dedicated to Responsible Business, the environment and the community.
