Bmw Updates Its Idrive System With The New Connecteddrive Platform

BMW Updates its iDrive System with New ConnectedDrive Jul 25th, 2012.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Jul 25th, 2012 --

Perillo BMW of Chicago, IL is excited to announce the next edition of BMWs iDrive system, which will be called ConnectedDrive. BMW has long been a revolutionary figure in the automotive industry, often being the first auto manufacturer to release new technologies into its cars. The ConnectedDrive system has updated every aspect of the previous iDrive platform, including, apps, navigation, smartphone integration, infotainment, and telematics.

BMW has made developing apps for the new ConnectedDrive system very easy. It has an available Software Development Kit that third-part developers can use to integrate their app software into the ConnectedDrive system. This will allow drivers to choose from many more apps than before to integrate into their car driving experience.

The navigation system is also receiving updates. Directions and maps will be rendered in 3D with graphic representations of buildings to give a more realistic and easy-to-use navigation experience. There will also be a High Guiding function, where when drivers get within 500 feet of the next instruction point, the arrow guiding function is supplemented by detailed navigation information.

The updated iDrive system will allow for better smartphone integration. This means that when a smartphone is connected to the car (through Bluetooth), the car will automatically sync the phones address book into the cars ConnectedDrive menu. The message dictation system will allow drivers to compose short emails or text messages via voice recognition. Drivers will even be able to add formatting to emails (ex. new lines and punctuation).

The current iDrive controller will also receive a sophisticated update. The top of the knob will be touch-sensitive and can be used to write letters on the top for faster navigation and to expand or contract maps. The updated ConnectedDrive system should be available in the American market sometime in mid-2013.
