A Texas Roofing Company That Has You Covered

Ring in the New Year with a call to your local roofing contractor. A well-timed inspection can save you thousands of dollars avoiding costly roof repairs and ultimately replacement. Dec 21st, 2011.

United States (FreePressBox.com) Dec 21st, 2011 --

Winter is almost officially here and thanks in large part to La Nia, we can expect another brutally cold and snowy winter for a large part of the country. Now is the perfect time for a roof checkup that can help diagnose potential problems you want to avoid in the coming months.

Swan Roofing has compiled a checkup guide based on recommendations from the National Roofing Contractors Association along with tips they have learned after 30 years in the industry. We always recommend you hire a professional roofing contractor to thoroughly inspect all the sections of your roof. However, we realize that most homeowners prefer to perform a preliminary inspection themselves. If you're up to the task, the following are some important tips to help you out.

Safety first. Setup your ladder safely with the following tips:

Visually review and inspect your ladder including the rungs, rails and any connectors for damage.

Please be sure to place the ladder on a stable and level area of ground or concrete.

Don't forget to secure your ladder at the end point near the top to prevent any slipping.

Remember to extend your ladder at the minimum of three feet past the eave and/or gutter, ensure that it is angled one foot back from the house for every four feet in eave height.

Hands on! Be sure to use both hands and grip the ladder securely when climbing.

What to look for. Keep your eye out for the following:

Shingles or tiles that are cracking, pealing back or bubbling; this lets you know that it is not providing adequate protection for your house and attic.

Be mindful of areas or spots that appear to be rotting, fading or are discolored due to algae growth.

If possible due to location, thoroughly inspect areas around chimneys or any pipes and where they meet the roof

Also be sure to keep your gutters clean. Excessive amounts of leaves, twigs and miscellaneous materials will make your gutters heavy and will eventually cause them to loosen.

Once you are inside, please check your ceilings for any visible damage. If you suspect you see any signs of damage as described above, please contact us immediately to schedule a free consultation. In addition, you can stop by our showroom today and see for yourself the quality of materials we put into every roof we service.
