Fabulous Places in Myanmar

Yangon- This is the present capital. This site has always been known to have a lot of religious significance. The Shwedagon Pagoda is treated as the landmark of this place. The place was used by the British government as an administrative center and it became a major sea port. It was soon recorded as the best city in South East Asia in terms of beauty. After 1990, the city was opened for the tourists. A few of the old buildings were destroyed and were replaced by modern buildings. But still, one can get the feel of the original remnants of the colonial era despite much of it being substituted by the modern style buildings. The city center is one such example. It has the City hall, which has a seriously impressive structure made of stone. The classical aspects of the Colonial rule had been fantastically blended with the essence of Myanmar.

Mandalay- This is the cultural center of the country. Situated in upper Myanmar, the place is considered the economic and religious center of upper Myanmar. Mandalay is enriched with Buddhist monuments and historical memorials. The Royal Palace is the most remarkable site in Mandalay. It was the home for the Konebaung Dynasty. At the time of the Second World War, it was badly affected by bombs. But now, it has been reconstructed and has gained back its lost glory.

Bagan- King Anawrahta found this place in 1044 A.D. On a 40sq km flat plain, more than 2000 monuments of religious significance can be seen dotted. Every citizen of Myanmar is extremely proud about Bagan. The landscape of the place is enriched with the stunning red brick Pagodas and the architectural beauty.

Inle Lake- In the whole of South East Asia, this is considered to be the most picturesque site. Unlike the above mentioned places, there are no historical sites. Instead, there is an abundance of natural beauty. The lake is surrounded by Blue Mountains. This is the home of the Intha people. The Phaungdawoo Pagoda here, which is the home of the five images of Buddha, is a place of utmost attraction for both the Buddhists and the non-Buddhists.
