2013 Mustang Red Tails Edition Honoring Tuskegee Airmen To Be Auctioned Off

Ford will soon be paying homage to the Tuskegee Airmen with a specially designed Mustang muscle car. The latest version, based on a 2013 Ford Mustang GT, is a one-of-a-kind Red Tails Tuskegee Airmen Mustang, and will be auctioned off at the annual EAA AirVenture aviation show on July 26, 2012.

All proceeds from the unique Mustang will go to support the EAAs Young Eagles. This program provides free introductory flight courses for youth in the United States. The goals of the organization are to also teach the value of hard work, personal responsibility, and enhanced math and science skills.

The auctioning of this specially-designed iconic muscle car marks the fifth year Ford has donated to the event. In the past, all of the custom Mustangs auctioned off during the EAA AirVenture shows have sold for more than 100,000. One year, a model sold for an impressive 500,000. The Red Tails Tuskegee Airmen Mustang is expected to produce a similar bid.

The special Mustang model honors the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American aviators in the United States Army Air Corps, who were formed in 1940. Prior to this time, African Americans were banned from flying for the United States military. The 2013 Mustangs paint job features a red detailing on the back of the car. This represents the notably red tails of the airplanes flown by the Tuskegee Airmen.

Aside from the unique design of the 2013 Ford Mustang Red Tails Edition, its performance is also impressive. The model features a 5.0-liter V-8 engine, Ford Racing 2.3-liter Whipple Supercharger, and side exhausts.
